21st Century Lesson Plan Development Project -- Will be held on June 14th Nortel will sponsor the first system-wide joint lesson plan development session with the Durham Public Schools. A planning session for this innovative project will be held on June 14, 2007 at the DPS Staff Development Center. Nortel volunteers will work with teachers in order to help them develop new technology rich lesson plans that reflect real world applications of technology, problem solving and Internet based research for application to everyday work situations.

The teachers will learn to use Nortel LearniT's www.NortelLearniT.org lesson plan development model to create more interesting and engaging projects for their students. A training session will be held for volunteers prior to the June 14th date in order to develop questions and recommended activities to create an environment ripe for innovative ideas.

View one of the newest lesson plans: Ancient Observatories and Timeless Knowledge

A product of our partnership with the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) and the NASA Office of Education, this 6th - 9th grade lesson plan is fun for students and covers a wide range of subjects from science to math, history and social studies.

Students will be engaged in the hands-on activities of building and using their own sundials to monitor, measure and analyze the sun's movements. Using digital cameras, PowerPoint and web page creation tools, students will create dynamic presentations that demonstrate the Sun-Earth connection.

NASA and Nortel LearniT Celebrate Viking's Thirty Year Anniversary

Thirty years ago the NASA Viking landers landed on Mars, a revolutionary event of its time.

The Viking ships were the first of its kind to land on Mars intact, and "the first American spacecraft to land on another planetary body since Apollo". (Credit: NASA.gov)

The landers collected data revealing that there had been no possible life on Mars, including thounsands of pictures and soil samples.
NASA, Nortel LearniT and Nortel along with other partners are celebrating the Viking anniversary. Members of the Viking team of the 1970's and various other honorary members of NASA and their partners will be speaking about the Viking project.

Nortel LearniT is committed to sharing the best educational resources with all users. The Nortel LearniT team will enhance an audiocast of the event, and invite you to watch the event from our site.

Local students will accompany the Nortel LearniT Webcasting team in learning how to produce and distribute a live event online. Five public school students will document the days events and learn how to conduct an enhanced audiocast.
