- Coming to America - A look at colonization in the 1600s
Early European exploration and colonization resulted in the redistribution of the world's population as millions of people from Europe and Africa voluntarily and involuntarily moved to the New World. Exploration and colonization initiated worldwide commercial expansion as agricultural products were exchanged between the Americas and Europe. In time, colonization led to ideas of representative government and religious toleration that over several centuries would inspire similar transformations in other parts of the world.
- Declaring Freedom
Students will be asked to describe and list the sections of the Declaration of Independence and explain the basic purpose as well as demonstrate an awareness of the Declaration of Independence as a historical process developed in protest of unfair conditions. Then they will 'declare freedom' today based on their grievances. Students are required to: participate in a weekly discussion board; complete journal entries; take part in group activities and produce and present a final project. Each group will produce a multimedia project to demonstrate their applied understanding of the lesson. This lesson plan includes direct links to a wealth of historical and technology integration source documents and guides.
