Engage
How would the following scenes change you:- seeing a man die in action?
- seeing a slave being beaten by his master?
- seeing a woman’s place being predetermined by being born as a woman?
- seeing children being treated by their abusive parents?
Working in small groups, you will accurately show one of the minority groups from the Realistic time period. The final product will be a glog that sends a powerful message informing the public about your minority group.
Explore
Your group will begin this exploration by selecting one of the four minority groups. Which group seems to resonate most with you? About which group do you think you can create an effective awareness video?
Explain
Part IIn your groups, discuss the following questions. Have one of the group members note the major points of your discussions to provide to other class members. 1. What were the most common issues presented in the minor you observed? 2. How will you go about producing an effective glogster? 3. What pictures would help accurately depict your group? Part II –In your small groups;
- Use one of the brainstorming techniques we have studied to produce a list of ideas you have for each minority group.
- Select one topic for your public awareness glogster.
- Research your minority group to become more knowledgeable on it.
- Decide who your audience will be—remember this is the late 1800s/early 1900s.
- Create your storyboard.
- Plan out a schedule for meeting with your group members to create the glogster.
Create a responsibility form, listing each group members’ responsibilities.
In order to demonstrate your understanding of the Realism literary movement, you will be creating a glogster. Use this packet to guide you.....

Criteria | Unsatisfactory(4) | Needs Improvement(6) | Satisfactory(8) | Exemplary (10) |
| Research (demonstrated in the form of a submitted works cited page) | Limited research, from limited sources | Somewhat well researched from somewhat varied sources. | Well researched, from various sources | Thorough research from varied sources presenting different points of view |
| ContentMinority group is accurately depicted· has five dates about group in time period· shows accurate pictures· contains a video that enhances the understanding· finds three other texts that show minority group | Contains some of the requirements; more than one significant element is missing | Contains most of the requirements; one significant element is missing | Contains all of the requirements; some of the elements are weak or don’t demonstrate a clear understanding of the time period | Contains all the requirements; elements show a profound understanding of the time period |
| Technology Use to Demonstrate Understanding (technological components enhance the content) | Technology use with little purpose | Technology use with some purpose | Technology use with purpose | Intuitive technology use with specific purpose |
| Overall Final Project | Inconsistent and inappropriate aesthetics and technical functionality | Somewhat consistent and appropriate aesthetics and technical functionality | Consistent and appropriate aesthetics and technical functionality | Consistent, creative and appropriate aesthetics and technical functionality |
- Your participation (assessed by your group members): Group members will provide an assessment of the group. Design an evaluation form and assess the contribution of the group members and the actual final project. (25 points)
- Your reflection (assessed by you).
