Introduction

Students will prepare PowerPoint presentations after writing 2 real world problems using percents.

Prerequisite Experience

internet search skills, PowerPoint effective use.

Teacher Prep Time

30- 40 minutes

Project

Students will use their textbooks to explore percent of increase and decrease problems. They will then write one of each type to present to the class.

Time Management Tips

Turn on computers before class. Keep students on task and this can be done in 2 blocks with an additional block for presentations.

Lesson Plan Details

Engage

Have you used percents of growth and or decay in the past 24 hours? You will be writing your own problems for presentation to the class.

Explore

Define:

percent of decay

 Work through the Activities in section 5.1 and 5.2.

Explain

Students will submit their textbook activites and rough drafts of the questions.

After approval of questions, students will prepare PowerPoint presentations and present to the class.

 

Elaborate

Students will present, clarify when necessary and answer questions.

If possible the students would visit via the net the classrooms where the problems are used.
