Introduction
Prerequisite Experience
An understanding of opposites, a variety of objects to trigger the senses, an understanding of what organ is used for what sense.Teacher Prep Time

The student will select and print five pictures that trigger each sense. They will write what each object looks like, smells like, tastes like, sounds like, and feels like. The student will then locate pictures in periodicals that demonstrate the senses and paste them on a separate sheet of paper.Assessment/Grading
The student should have written the correct sense name and sensory descriptor(s) and pasted the correct demonstrative picture on the correct page.Time Management Tips
Utilize all computers in the classroom. Have a wide variety of periodicals available for students to use. Coordinate with the school librarian to obtain periodicals that the students will be able to cut from. Divide the students into two groups. While one group is using the computer, the other group can be at their desks searching through periodicals for demonstrative pictures to cut and paste.Lesson Plan Details
Engage
Students will observe a variety of objects that will trigger the five senses. Have them tell what each object looks like, feels like, tastes like, sounds like, and smells like.Explore
Once they select their objects, they need to watch the United Streaming video "Fabulous Five: Our Senses". The students are to write at least one fact about each sense.Explain
The students will write the fact that they discovered in the video under the correct demonstrative picture. Also, the students will write a "sensory descriptor" (SOL K.2b) under each object. They will then present them orally to the class.Elaborate
Each student will be recorded on a camcorder making their presentation.Evaluate
The teacher will grade the students as they make their presentation. The students will be given a sheet with the name of each student on it. They will evaluate the presentations by drawing a smiley face by thestudents name if they thought the report was interesting or correct or a sad face if they did not think the student was interesting or correct in their finding. The teacher will review the recordings for further
evaluation of the students.
