Adventures in Africa

Introduction

In this simulation, the students are asked by a travel company to create a series of magazine advertisements to promote travel adventures throughout Africa. Students will use the Internet to learn about Africa, its history and general information about various countries. Each student or pair of students will select one country or area and prepare an advertisement that encourages people to enjoy an adventure in Africa. Students will share their information with other members of the class.

Prerequisite Experience

The Students will have demonstrated competence with navigating the Internet and word processing skills. They will possess some basic knowledge of the digital imaging and digital video production.

Teacher Prep Time

minimal
Teachers will want to become familiar with some of the sites dealing with the topic area. It will be useful to look at the Digital Imaging and Discovering the Internet tutorials found at Nortel LearniT (www.NortelLearniT.org). Students should be directed to these videos prior to starting their assignment.

Project

Students will prepare a brief report about what they have learned about Africa and create their magazine advertisement promoting their African Adventure.

Assessment/Grading

An evaluation rubric that been provided to use in assessing the presentations. Students should be encouraged to evaluate their work throughout the process.
