European Influences on North America

Introduction

Students will work in groups to research and analyze how European influences have had an impact on societies throughout North America both historically and through today. Specific areas of emphasis include European influences on our cultural activities (e.g. art, literature, architectural, holidays and celebrations), governmental, religious and cuisine.

Prerequisite Experience

Students should be able to conduct research online and use a word processor. Prior PowerPoint or other presentation software tool experience would be helpful.

Teacher Prep Time

1 – 2 hours
Review the identified web resources in Explore. Review the PowerPoint training videos from Nortel LearniT.

Project

Students will use the web to conduct their research and PowerPoint to present findings and demonstrate their applied understanding of European Influences on North American society and culture.

Assessment/Grading

Using a presentation rubric, the student PowerPoint projects will be evaluated on their subject knowledge, their analytical skills, and their ability to use the tools to convey their applied understanding.

Time Management Tips

Limit the number of slides students create in their final projects (e.g. 5-7)
