Mobile Camera Kit - Instructions Welcome to the engaging world of digital imaging and video! You can use the Nortel LearniT Mobile Camera Kit for a wide variety of hands-on learning activities. Please be sure to review the Nortel LearniT resource, "101 Ideas to Get Started-Digital Safaris" for ideas on specific projects. Getting Started: You should get familiar with the equipment in the Nortel LearniT Mobile Camera Kit. Please review this inventory before distributing the equipment. (Please note: if checking the Kit out, please be sure to use the enclosed Checklist to ensure all items that are distributed are returned). The Mobile Camera Kit contains:
Mobile Cameras: These versatile cameras allow the user to take digital photos as well as short video segments. Each camera has its' own rechargeable battery as well as a 1 GB XD Storage Card (both are located on in the access door on the bottom of the camera). Several tips to having a successful experience in using the cameras include:
Tip: Auto setting is demarked on selection wheel and works well in most situations. Sima Mini-Tripod: Is provided for a steady shot particularly when capturing video (to prevent shaky video). Be sure to have camera firmly affixed to the Mini-Tripod so that it won't fall of the mount.Epson Portable Storage/Viewer 40 GB Hard Drive: This external hard drive is intended as a temporary storage collection point for the images, videos and projects created by the users. It eliminates the need for you to connect your camera(s) to a computer or laptop to move or copy images/videos. It is HIGHLY encouraged that all files are kept in new folders named for the date and activity for the images or videos (e.g. 10-31-07_Halloween_party). The unit should be fully charged before embarking on a project. When the portable hard drive is near its capacity, users should transfer data from it to a permanent storage location such as a school server. Coby 10" LCD Photo Frame: Can be used to playback digital images, digital videos or even music files. It is recommended that after images or videos are collected on the Epson 40 GB Hard Drive, it should be connected to the LCD Photo Frame and used to 'Showcase' the projects that users created. The LCD Photo Frame has an AutoPlay feature (see manual for information) that allows multiple images or videos to be played continuously. TIP: This is a good way to display and show off the power of using digital images and videos to other potential users long after specific hands-on projects are completed. Kata Camera Bag: Storage for the cameras, accessories and the LCD Photo Frame. It is highly recommended that when not in use, these items are all stored in the bag for safe-keeping. After Use: Be sure to share your success stories in using the Nortel LearniT Mobile Camera Kit via email with staff@NortelLearniT.org In addition to a short write-up on the activity conducted (or if a lesson plan was used), please submit finished projects for sharing via www.NortelLearniT.org. Your assistance in sharing your success stories will help ensure that we keep this program alive and growing! |
