     CyberSmarts for CyberSafety

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month and is an excellent time to weave online safety skills into your lessons. Visit CyberSmarts-Outreach-For-Schools and learn how other teachers and their students are building those skills. Be sure to watch this recent news piece about a Dallas area teacher's efforts to make her students CyberSmart.

     Calling Beta Testers

This summer many of you helped tell us what  21st
century skills you believe are needed in today's classroom. We've put your suggestions into action by creating the first of three courses to help build those skills. If you are interested in being among the first to review and provide feedback to this online offering we want to hear from you. Please send us an email at staff@NortelLearniT.org with the subject line of eTeacher Tester.

     Partnership Produces Plans

A partnership with the Durham, NC Public Schools (DPS) has flourished by producing more than 35 new project-based lesson plans. Built using the constructivist 6ES Lesson Plan model, teachers in the DPS crafted this rich collection primarily focusing on elementary school activities.  You can create your own 6ES Lesson Plan by using the free wizard-driven Lesson Plan Builder.

     Featured Lesson Plan

It's hard to pick just one from the new DPS collection but a staff favorite is All About Our Town. Geared towards 3rd grade students, this hands-on project uses brochure creation to teach non-fiction writing and information gathering techniques. Kudos to Stacy Russell-Reed of Burton Elementary for her outstanding work.
